Last summer, just before nightfall, I fell while rapidly traversing a boulder field in the Trinity Alps wilderness of Northern California. The fall caused me to suffer a very deep cut on the palm of my right hand. Once I had the wound dressed, the ace bandage made it very difficult to grip anything. I remained in camp the next day, and had I not had my SteriPEN, it would have been absolutely impossible for me to treat any water. I still had a two day hike ahead of me before I could reach trailhead, my car, and an opportunity for much-needed medical attention.
