SteriPEN – A Portable UV Water Purifier
When you’re in a country that has dodgy water supply, such as India, you want to make sure that you have safe water for drinking, washing your teeth and such. There’s a bunch of microbes like bacteria, viruses and protozoa that can make you sick if you don’t take some precautions regarding your water safety.
In the past you would usually boil water or add chlorination tablets (in Croatia we use Izosan for that) but then you end up either with hot water and have to wait for ages to get it to room temperature in the wilderness or you just get water with strange chlorine taste which is not very appetizing and you feel like you just had a swim in the pool. The other option is water filtration which is not only complicated but the equipment for it is heavy to carry around. Additionally, it doesn’t get rid of all the pathogens. That’s where SteriPEN comes in.
